Drum Filter for Aquaculture

The operating system is simple. The water to be filtered is directed into a rotating drum. The outer surface of the drum is manufactured with a number of stainless steel plates covered with stainless steel (or Nylon) mesh plates. Suspended solids larger than the perforations are unable to pass through the mesh and thus, are retained in the drum. The slowly rotating drum separates the solids from the water and discharges the solids through a discharge channel located at the top of the drum as indicated on sketch.

Why ozone generator feed with oxygen rather than ambient air?

Because to oxidize organic matter such as fish excrement, precipitate dissolved matter, destabilize colloidal particles, disinfects the water which requires high ozone concentration. And the former produce higher ozone concentration than the latter.

Ozone Water Treatment for AquacultureOzone has seen wide use in aquaculture because it has a rapid reaction rate, produces few harmful reaction by-products in freshwater and oxygen is produced as a reaction end-product. Ozone is an extremely reactive oxidant and a very effective bactericide and viricide. Ozone can also be used to achieve water quality improvements by micro flocculating fine particulate matter (making particles that are easier to settle or filter) and oxidizing non biodegradable organic molecules (creating smaller and more biodegradable molecules), nitrite, and refractory organic molecules (reducing water color).

Unlike such agents as chlorine, or any of its derivatives, oxidation with ozone leaves no hard to handle or toxic residues requiring subsequent complex treatment. In practice, ozone immediately starts to attack the oxidizable components it comes into contact with. This property makes it a very powerful disinfectant. Because the process only leaves "oxygenated" products and oxygen, it is particularly well suited for applications such as hatchery water where the presence of undesirable elements after treatment could have grave consequences.

Protein Skimmer for Aquaculture

A Protein Skimmer removes large molecules from water. Proteins are very large molecules with very large numbers of atoms. Protein Skimmers originally got that name because they were thought to skim protein molecules from the aquarium water. Actually it's now known that Protein Skimmers also remove other stuff from saltwater too.

Skimming removes certain organic compounds from your aquarium water, including proteins and amino acids, by using the polarityof the protein itself. Due to their intrinsic charge, water-borne proteins are attracted to the air/water interface. This unit works by injecting numerous tiny bubbles into the water column. The small bubbles present an enormous air/water interface for the protein molecules to cling to. The longer the bubble resides in the water, the more proteins it is able to attract. The action of a protein skimmer is often compared to the action of waves producing sea foam.
